opening up with the deep space atmospherics of quiet life the album immediately transports you to another world. the title track is then a melodically lush and uplifting affair with curious synth patterns ebbing and flowing beneath crisp percussion. tracks like we search for answers combine organic, wooden textures with more synthetic and trippy synth sounds that are as far away from your standard sample packs as can be imagined. across the course of the album there are dark, moody and emotive pieces like worship (previously released in extended form on the mdl02 single) featuring qzen who reads a poem by patience agbabi in tantalising fashion as well as heavyweight, dubbed out techno groovers like shadow theory. make it true (of which seth troxler will be releasing an extended edit on his play it say it label, complete with high profile remixes) is another great collab featuring the vocals of jojo de freq, and the track itself is a harmonious, radiant house jam that is humid and human in equal measure. the otherworldly, snaking feel free again showcases berkson & what s ability to coax alluring emotions out of their machines and closer logan five wraps things up in suitably spangled, textural fashion. despite the fact much of this album will work on a dancefloor in the hands of the right dj, there s an invention and musicality to it that renders the whole thing hugely listenable away from the club. a testament to berkson & what s analogue invention and fluid ideas, keep up appearances really is a master electronic oeuvre.

detroit techno legend anthony -shake- shakir is a person who should need no introduction. he has been a long time veteran of the scene since the late 1980s, releasing music using many different pseudonyms and working alongside other heavy hitters including, carl craig, keith tucker, juan atkins and many more throughout his long career. a career that has seen him consistently on the cutting edge of techno, releasing ground breaking records, setting up seminal record labels and building near mythical status within the global electronic music community.

concept e25 is back! wax classic 15 sees concept e25’s third release on the label in the space of just a year! the demand has been overwhelming for more garage house hits with that added subtle, french flourish. we heard those cries, so here we have another slammin four track record from the man himself! the opening track of the ep, sing!, is destined for greatness this summer on dance floors everywhere. for me, this will be the go-to track of the record for most djs out there. on this track, concept e25 combines a pumping kerri style bassline with beautiful sustained chords, feel good vox cuts and the occasional sax line. proper hands-in-the-air vibes here! giving it takes the ep into a deeper realm, one that evokes images of late evening summer sunsets. however, the garage swing and signature concept e25 bass sound is still present. lies leads with moody chords before introducing a vocal that will be stuck in your head for a long time! again, we have a smooth sax line to accompany the vocal up to the track’s climax. rounding out this solid release is feel this way. here, the punchy bass hits are united with an acid line that bubbles underneath, before being unleashed halfway through the track in a warehouse-reminiscent burst of resonance.

before dj gregory was point g. point g is an alias used by the french produced to explore a gritty, raw sound steeped in abstract vibes but with a very basic approach, which makes it all the more captivating making a strong impact on the underground scene in the 90s, point g gained much respect amongst his peers with timeless releases like the raw ep, on the raw again ep…. originals vinyl copies of many of point gs early tracks are notoriously hard to find, giving this comeback even more kudos.

pablo and shoey return just in time for festival season with 4 new bits for the front of your box. e-man groove is a massive disco-rock jam that could have been sprung from the minds of dem idjut boys, with sympathy for the devil style percussion and wild guitar riffing driving the whole thing. blazing sunshine, meanwhile, is a funky, hammond organ led version of let the sunshine in, a guaranteed hands in the air moment when dropped at the right time. disco treat is more of a modern floor-burner, closer to straight production edit with a bouncing bassline and all manner of whacked out disco sounds in the mix, not to mention breakdowns for days. rounding off the package is some classic funky soul breaks - the lads tear a chunk off bettye lavettes soul tambourine to make play it, break it on down! as sampled on stezos golden era hip hop rocker to the max.

*jingo* is an all-time classic dance record, sampled, edited, re-configured and coveted by too many names to mention! it’s a killer funky disco version of master nigerian drummer olatunjis 1969 percussion suite of the same name, salsoul style, while over on the flip we have one of the deepest disco records of all time, *thousand finger man* a testament to candidos percussion prowess and a spacey, beautiful voyage that has left more than an indelible mark on modern house music, often being cited as a huge influence by artists such as masters at work and more. essential stuff basically, every collection should have a copy! this 12 inch has got to be one of the toughest salsoul records to find. changing hands for up to £300 a time for a used copy. now it has been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with all original label artwork intact with the permission of salsoul records, new york city.

we are happy to welcome maceo plex to drumcode with the fourth instalment of his conjure series, conjure infinity . featuring two tracks conjure dreams and conjure floyd , both are peak time monsters that introduce two very different elements. conjure dreams utilises a groovy, melodic bass that is reinforced using tight thumping drums to shatter any dance floor into the universe. conjure floyd builds into a more heads down techno vibe with a very interesting breakdown. two sure fire tracks to ignite the floor.

mulen marks the arrival of its second vinyl with the release aloft from tish. this kiev-based lady is definitely seen as a key player in the ukrainian underground. the original mix of aloft is stripped-down vogue techno with a funky baseline and tick-tock percussion. the track is flashing out the skippy, atmospheric style one might call mulen s signature sound. under number two we have samples of silence where tish explores possibilities of rhythm and space. the track progresses through a clean path of precision drums to a warmer meditative lead. on the b-side cadenza native valentino kanzyani plugs 9 minute remix of the titled aloft. quoting a minimal running techno, kanzyani stockpile some much-needed tension while keeping the arrangement uncluttered. his hypnotic groove beneath a blunted and ponderous baseline deliver us a darker, more cosmic vibe.

samuel l. session, a techno producer from sweden who founded the labels sls and cycle and now runs the klap klap imprint. apart from that, he has released on drumcode, soma, music man and kms records. in 2007, samuel l session was featured on kms 091 - kevin saunderson’s release – “history elevate 2” with a remix for “pump the move”. now in 2015, samuel l session presents his second artist release on kms records with “the talkbox ep” the talk box ep kicks of with an “original mix” that is a dark, deep & groovy. detroit inspired techno pumper that features a deep bass line with haunting chords. move on next to the “concrete mix” which provides a bit more airy feel. on the b side the soulful groove b1 “birth of blue” featuring elbee bad providing whispering melodic vocal sprinkled on top an ever moving progression that even includes some great horn stabs. rounding out the ep is the b2 “birth of blue” featuring elbee bad & andreas saag, providing a groovy solo-esc piano, riffing throughout this already groovy number

boston bun is back for 2015 with just for freaks, which is part 1 of a series of three eps dedicated to unrestrained underground clubbing. just for freaks 1 stays in the chicago house revival that boston bun established these past 2 years. the right balance between deep and ghetto music. a-side pleasure is a track that you can play very late in the darkest clubs. it drives us with unpitched voices and unleashed tr which succeed to a cut-up bass. b-side levitate flirts with lovely strummed music, almost nostalgic, interrupted by an harmonious and bouncy bassline. the lyric *you wanna play house some more?* sounds like the anthem of a neverending party. the vinyl ep includes a download code.

the km editions series, admirably helmed by the mysterious keyboard masher, has always been one of the more interesting re-edit/rework labels. past installments have touched on krautrock, disco, balearica, funk, italo and what can only be described as electronic oddities. this sixth volume offers up three more impressively remixed, overdubbed and reedited gems. theres naturally much to admire, not least the omd style woozy synth-pop of stolen shapes (stealing rework), which should tickle the fancy of anyone of a balearic disposition. the same can be said about the immersive, sun-kissed pianos and shuffling grooves of -astral playground. there s also a chunk of silly but, perversely, rather good french cod-reggae in the shape of le cod-, arguably our pick of a strong bunch.

dj spider & franklin de costa come along with a massive follow-up of their first single on killekill (cat number 016). second bass on the a-side is a bomb of a track with its jazzy beats, otherworldly strings and a bassline straight out of hell. comsume is even more otherworldly with its stumbling, shuffling beat and a spaced-out vocal sample taken from an unnamed sci-fi movies from the 50s. coffee break, the last track of the ep, is a deadlock groove of heavy beats and freaky breaks, that leaves you lost in time and space.

berlin based mutewax records strikes again with its eagerly awaited second release, various artists 02. label founder mutecells cursed casts a long dark shadow over the dance floor with an electrifying and slightly acidic melody. hector oaks reductions gets straight to the point with an aggressive and powerful followup to his last release on key vinyl. msdmnr takes a more placid approach with vortex vapour, building energy with clear and crisp progressions. urbano employs soft melodies to counterbalance a chilling journey into an unknown world.

christian viers is fast becoming a prominent name on uk underground house and techno circuits, either as part of lazlo dancehall alongside leon vynehall or his long running a1 bassline project. techno-focused releases on his own label, source unknown captured the attention of the ears behind the newly formed fina white resulting in the bad timing ep, which the label state is a strikingly clear indication of the distinctive direction they plan to take moving forward. title track bad timing is a straight up techno banger whose menacingly melodic low-end tones, relentless thump and rolling toms are the driving force behind its robust and looming groove. without time is a similarly complex percussive cut, but with its jungle inspired arabic horns, trancey synth-lead breakdowns and acid squelches, whilst uk house veteran nail offers a more direct 4/4 take on the track with his typically classy remix.

hvl is back on rough house rosie with a second solo ep. the tracks for this release were recorded in a strange surrounding far away from home and friends. this time everything is more darker, deeper and progressive

brought to attention in dj sets from the likes of rustie, jackmaster, and receiving radio support on bbc radio 1 from annie mac, zane lowe, mistajam plus more, *minger* follows darqs previous productions for some of grime and raps most memorable characters, notably tempa ts *next hype* and danny browns *blueberry*. underpinned by crisp 808 drums, a serrated synth riff and doom.

release no.4 for the mysterious dense & pika. >who cares wins< is another slice of grimey warehouse rawness, the kinetic drums and synths combing for a peak time cacophony of sound. flipsides >morse mode< ups the tempo whilst still keeping the duos signature rough vibe whilst >crackling< rounds things off nicely, more streamlined than the previous tracks with a touch of dub techno thrown in for good measure.

deep dubby techno on this new sound architecture. the label originally founded in rotterdam and currently operated from antwerp still going strong on a irregular base with tight modern techno and house releases. this one is maybe the first thats more or less rooted in the best dub techno traditions with a modern twist, remaining those nice swampy moist synths and seductive grooves. deadbeat and hreno come together to produce a dub techno tune of mcconaugheyan proportions.
